This is a video recap of the events of Wednesday night, August 3 when Pleasure Island had an excavation, a hatching and a sea turtle nest laid all in the same evening. Pleasure Island Sea Turtle volunteers were bust that night. Above photo courtesy Neal Dorow.
Kure Beach patrol
On Kure Beach, North Carolina, a small army of volunteers is getting up early every morning in the summer to make sure that some of the area's smallest visitors are protected. The Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Project sends its volunteers searching for and protecting the nests of endangered loggerhead turtles during June and July so that the hatchlings can emerge in August and march to the sea.
